A New Birth - DrGeorgeJ Daily Devotion

For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. - 1 Peter 1:23

Read 1 Peter 1:13-25

Peter tells us that we are born again through the imperishable seed of the Word of God. Jesus Christ is the living and abiding word. He is the word that became flesh. John beautifully wrote, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it (John 1:1-5).” God’s salvation plan is revealed in the word of God through his son, Jesus Christ. We are reborn with a life conceived by God himself because of this good news. His word makes all things new. Jesus reveals his own personality to us through his message, which is more than just good news. Hence, Jesus is the living and abiding word.

Peter also described the word of God as an imperishable seed. The grass withers, and its flower falls away, but the word of the LORD endures forever (vv. 24-25). God’s message is an eternal seed waiting to be planted in the fertile soil of a believing heart. His word will germinate, take root, and grow thanks to the Holy Spirit, bringing life and beauty to all it touches. His word will change and empower our lives so that we might live out the type of love and righteousness that God desires. It will also empower us to share the same imperishable seed to other people, so that they too may experience a new birth.
