Abraham Believed

Romans 4:20 Daily Devotion Scripture

Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God — Romans 4:20

For Christians, Abraham is regarded as the “Father of Faith,” because the Bible states Abraham believed God and it was credited to Him as righteousness (Romans 4:3). God told Abraham that He would make him a great nation, bless him, and make his name renowned, making him a blessing. This was an astonishing promise, establishing the world’s greatest demonstration of God’s sovereignty and providence.

Abraham held onto hope in the face of all hope and what appeared to be beyond our own comprehension to be conceivable. Even though he was close to 100 years old and Sarah’s womb was also dead, his faith did not waver. Instead, Abraham is encouraged in his faith and glorified God. Why? Because Abraham is completely convinced that God has the ability to fulfill his promises.

Do you have faith that He’ll keep His word to you? Are you also convinced that God can do it? Abraham and his offspring were given the promise that they would be the world’s heirs, not because of their own works or righteousness, but because of the righteousness that results from faith. So, may we always keep the wider picture in mind as we read God’s promise to Abraham. For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ (2 Corinthians 1:20).

Lord, help me grow in faith.
