Read Psalm 63
What is your response during the season of drought? How about during the season of harvest?
Maybe for some of us, our natural response during the harsh, rough, and dry season is to operate on our own and to come up with an escape plan. And during the season of harvest, there is a tendency for some of us to be like the rich man in the parable of Jesus. When the rich man thought to himself, ‘What will I do? I have no place to keep all my crops.’ “Then he said, ‘I know what I will do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger barns! I will put all my wheat and good things together in my new barns. Then I can say to myself, I have many good things stored. I have saved enough for many years. Rest, eat, drink, and enjoy life (Luke 12:17-19)!’
All of us will go through different seasons of high and low. David’s response in the season of dryness is to thirst for God. In a dry and thirsty land, he seeks, thirsts, and longs for God. He appreciates God is God wherever and whenever season he may be. That is why he continues to praise God and lift his hands in prayer, he knows that God’s faithful love is better than life.
Jeremiah 17:7-8 says, “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.” I hope our response in life’s situation is to always thirst, seek, and long for God. His faithful love is better than life. He is the only who satisfies, sustains, and delivers us.
Lord, in humility, I will forever praise your name!
