Blessed are the Meek​

Read Matthew 5:1-11

Many presume that the word meek means not courageous, weak, or tame. In the Bible, meekness means power under control. The meek do not assert themselves over others in order to advance their own agendas with their own strength. Romans 12 says, “For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you (Romans 12:3).”

Jesus described himself as gentle and humble in heart (Matt 11:29). Meekness is a gift of God as a result of someone’s new identity in Christ. Meekness is the basic key and the secret of happiness to enjoy life. Arrogance and pride keep us from seeking God and His way while blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth (v. 5). A psalmist also says, “But the meek shall inherit the land and delight themselves in abundant peace. (Psalm 37:11 ESV).”
