Read Psalm 1
The book of Psalm opens with the word “blessed.” In the AMPC version, the word blessed is described as happy, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable. God’s desire and will for us is to show His path of blessedness.
The second verse starts with the word “but” which implies a strong contrast. After describing what NOT a blessed man of God is on the first verse, the following verse gives the positive side of a good man’s character — delighting and desiring the law of God and habitually meditating on it by day and by night.
Our delight in the Word of God causes us to read and to meditate on it. With this hunger for God’s Word, the psalmist says we will be like a tree firmly planted by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not fade or wither, and everything he does shall prosper. Our joy will never run out because His Word is like a stream.
