Born of God

Read 1 John 5:1-5

How can one be born of God? 1 John 5:1 says whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God. It is when we put our wholehearted trust in Jesus and on His saving work in our lives. As children of God, we are also expected to love God’s children, our brothers and sisters in Christ. Obeying the commandments of God is a way to show love to our neighbor. God’s commands are not about “love yourself, care for yourself, feed yourself” instructions. His commands show us ways on how to do good for others and not for ourselves. And loving God means obeying His commands (v. 3).

How difficult it is to obey God? We are not perfect. We sometimes slip, fall, and miss the mark of a true Christian. But the Bible says God’s commands are not too hard for us, because everyone who is a child of God has the power to win against the world. It is our faith that has won the victory against the world. So who wins against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God (v. 3-5).

Jesus sent the Helper to empower us and enhance our faith. The Bible says ask and you shall receive. Ask God to fill you up with the Holy Spirit who will guide you and lead you at all times. How can you show love to others today?
