Do You Love Me - Daily Devotion

Above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.” – 1 Peter 4:8

In a recent devotion, we featured God’s amazing grace offered to Peter as His pick to lead the church. The June “Magnificat” says, Jesus’ questions provoke within Peter the intense love that he will need to feed and tend his sheep. Peter’s sin did not nullify God’s plan for him. By questioning him, Jesus gives him the grace to undo his denials by sincerely expressing his love three times.

The stress that wells within Peter makes him eager to show his love and displaces the distress that burdened him after his denials. Because of Jesus’ persistent questions, Peter’s love is now on a whole new level. Not only will he acknowledge Jesus with his lips, as he failed to do earlier, but he will bear the ultimate witness of shedding his own blood.

What is your response when you hear “Do you love me?” Many of us will hear this throughout our lives when faced with the crosses He sends us. Each experience is an opportunity to answer Jesus, “Yes, Lord, I love you, and I will never stop loving you.”

Yes, Lord, I love you!
