Don’t Take A Single Day for Granted
Today's Daily Devotion - December 18, 2021
By Khai Samante
Even if you live a long time, don’t take a single day for granted.
Take delight in each light-filled hour,
Remembering that there will also be many dark days
And that most of what comes your way is smoke. — Ecclesiastes 11:8 MSG
Scripture Reading: Ecclesiastes 11:7-10
We often claim that time flies. Because of our hectic schedules, our days can sometimes fly by without us realizing. We all know that not every day is the same. Some are good, while others are bad. Some are filled with joy, while others are filled with sorrow.
Solomon reminds us we should not take any day for granted. Psalm 90:12 says to teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Take pleasure in each light-filled hour, he says in the MSG version. When the world came to a halt because of the Covid-19 outbreak, it reminded us we don’t have control over everything that happens around us. It made us realize how limited we are. We should not base our motivation for joy on external circumstances, but on the joy that comes from Jesus Christ. There will be more dark days ahead, but we have a light that the darkness can never overcome.
Every day is a reason to rejoice. Whatever our situation is, we must decide. Every breath we take is a gift from God. Let us constantly be grateful, rejoicing in even the little victories.
Let’s fix our eyes on Jesus.
