Faith-Deed Balance

What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? - James 2:14
We are all familiar with the phrase, “work-life balance.” How about “faith-deed balance”? In New Living Translation, it says, “What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone?” Faith without works is dead. Faith and works are not mutually exclusive.
Paul and James both agree that salvation is based solely on grace through faith. In contradiction to our “work trap” thinking that for us to receive salvation and blessings from God, we have to “work” by praying more, reading the bible more, serving more, sacrificing more, etc. Salvation is a free gift of God! Works are not the source of salvation, but they are a necessary outcome. God created us in Christ Jesus to do good works. Our faith is bound to spill over into action. And action can only begin when a person believes in the truth that God has shown to him.
Lord, overflow your love in me.
