Firm and Steadfast - Daily Devotion

We work hard with our own hands. When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it; when we are slandered, we answer kindly. — 1Corinthians 4:12-13

Read 1 Corinthians 4:8-13

Paul is urging the Corinthian leaders to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. Some people seem to assume that Christianity is all about blessings and riches. This is the reality: all Christians suffer. Despite all this, we are always prepared to suffer, knowing that God will restore us and make us strong, firm and steadfast (1 Peter 5:10).

When others curse us, let us choose to bless them and to speak love to them with a sincere heart. We are the people of God. In this evil world, we should always do what is right, good, and fitting as God’s people. This involves loving and being kind to our adversaries. Let us persevere in the face of adversity, knowing that God’s might will sustain us. It is preferable to suffer than to gain the world’s fleeting favor. None of our hardships are unintentional or without a reason.

God is our sustenance.
