There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are they for so many? - John 6:9
The number 5 symbolizes God’s grace, goodness and favor toward humans and is mentioned 318 times in Scripture. Five is the number of grace, and multiplied by itself, which is 25, is ‘grace upon grace’ (John 1:16). The Ten commandments contain two sets of 5 commandments. The first five commandments are related to our treatment and relationship with God, and the last five concern our relationship with other humans.
As I left my friend’s cabin with a heavy and aching heart over the death of my son’s father-in-law, God reminded me of His presence once again. Within 5 miles of the cabin, 5 bull elk were bedded down in a pasture 100 yards off the highway. Thank you God, for your grace, goodness and favor as they are abundant.
As Jesus took the 5 barely loaves, he had the 5000 people sit down. He took the bread, gave thanks and praise and fed the masses with 12 baskets of bread left over. Now that’s God’s grace, goodness, and favor in action.
Thank you, God!
