Follow Him

"Follow me," he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.

Matthew 9:9

Read Matthew 9:9-13

When someone asks us to follow them, we always ask where to follow or where are we heading? It is in our nature to always want to know the destination or what will happen next. Especially for those who love to plan, we find it uncomfortable if we do not know all the details of how to get from point A to point B.

Matthew was able to witness Jesus’ public teaching and healings for several times. It is not an accident when he saw the start of Jesus’ ministry. Even with doubts and skepticism, when Jesus asked Matthew to follow Him, the scripture says “he rose (from the tax collector’s booth) and followed Him.” Jesus’ invitation is not only about following him as a “company” to wherever He will go. He invited Matthew to be His disciple, to accept Him as his Master, and to teach and walk the same path of life that Jesus walks. Matthew let go of what he has, his stable job, protection from the Romans, and properties to follow Jesus and become one of His disciples.

Every day is an invitation for us to follow Jesus and allow Him through the Holy Spirit to change us and mold us to become like Him. Are you ready to follow Jesus today whatever it takes?

Lord, lead us to become like you.
