Forgiveness is Love in Action

The word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time: “Set out for the great city of Nineveh and announce to it the message that I will tell you.” — Jonah 3:1

God is Love and forgiveness is love in action. God did not give up on the repentant Jonah. In fact, God modeled his love for Jonah to be the witness to save the city of Nineveh. God picked Jonah and he would then equip him for his glory. This is no different than in our modern society. Be a hearer and doer of God’s word. Jonah was an outsider sharing the message of God- that the powerful city of Nineveh would be destroyed in 40 days unless the people repented-they listened and changed (vv. 4-5).

The people of Nineveh believed in God (vv. 5). God’s word has the power to change hearts and lives. The book of Jonah reminds us that the word of God spoken by ordinary people is powerful and effective. It captures hearts, converts sinners, and brings people to repentance. God’s word simply is…

Let us all be open to the word of the Lord. It is the message of God, not the messenger, that changes hearts and lives.
