Generosity and Gratitude

Men will praise God ... for your generosity in sharing with them ...

2 Corinthians 9:13

Read 2 Corinthians 9:6-15

Paul is commending the Corinthians about their eagerness to help in completing the collection of offering for the suffering brothers and sisters in Judea. He encourages the church to continue their generosity and reminded them that God loves it when the giver delights in giving (v. 7).

Whenever we give, it produces abundant and bountiful thanksgiving to God. Our generosity towards our neighbor is an expression of our gratitude to Him. It reflects the inexpressible gift God has given us – Jesus Christ. God did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all (Romans 8:32). Second Corinthians 8:9 says, “though he was rich, yet for our sake, he became poor so that we by his poverty might become rich.”

Our giving also results in praise from the people who benefit from them. They will glorify God for your obedience to the gospel of Christ which you confess, as well as for your generous participation for them and for all the other believers in need (v. 13).

How can you be a channel of God’s generosity today?

Lord, help us reflect your generosity to the people around us. Use us to be a blessing to others.
