Read Isaiah 6:1-7
Perhaps this is the attribute of God that we are very familiar with. A lot of praise songs have words or phrases about God being “holy.” God is not only Holy. Isaiah wrote that the seraphim called “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” Holiness means absolute spiritual honesty and total uniqueness. But repeating the word holy three times emphasizes the holiness of God in high importance. It reflects His divine perfection in all His ways and in the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God’s love is holy love. His mercy is holy mercy. His justice is holy justice. His spirit is holy spirit. He is holy above all, with no competition.
Sometimes, we fear the holiness of God. Sad to say, others use it as an excuse for them not to receive Jesus in their life. They feel unworthy and not deserving because God is holy and they are not. They thought they have to fix themselves first before surrendering their life to a holy God. Others live in religiosity, striving to follow all the laws of the Bible, thinking it will bring the holiness of God to them.
What is the appropriate response to the holiness of God? Reverent fear. Our reverent fear in Him leads us to obedience that is out of love. No one is holy like God, and therefore He alone is worthy of our worship.
Let’s cry holy, holy, holy to our God Almighty!
