God is Making A Way
Today's Daily Devotion - January 1, 2021

Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up;
do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and
streams in the wasteland.
- Isaiah 43:18–19
Without our knowing, there can still be something from the past that we still bring with us. Our experiences in the past, good or bad, play a big factor in who we are right now—our habits, expressions, reactions, and behavior. Some of us find it difficult to trust because of a betrayal from the past, some find it hard to forgive because it was never demonstrated from their home when they were younger, and some still live in fear because of the abuse they experienced before.
Our scripture today says, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past (v. 18).” Carrying unnecessary pieces of baggage from our past with us everywhere we go is like carrying a backpack that becomes heavier and heavier over time. It can eventually slow us down and even can limit our choices for the future. The Lord says, “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
Let us be in faith that as we face the new year, God will continue to do new things, things that w have never imagined possible. In the Message version, it says, “Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new. It’s bursting out! God is making a road through I’m making a road through the desert, rivers in the badlands.” We may be in the season of drought in 2020 but God never stops working. He is making a way! God has a way to deliver us from our distress, we only have to believe Him.
Let's be expectant! Our God is amazing!
