Good Intentions for Others - Daily Devotions

“Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil, but those who plan peace have joy.” - Proverbs 12:20

Read Matthew 22:34-40

Do we lead with love or lead with personal interests? Those who plan and carry out evil have deception in their hearts long before it manifests in their acts. Their core is polluted, and it manifests itself in their behavior. Those who utter words of peace, on the other hand, are rewarded with joy.

Remember when Jacob stole Esau’s birthright and blessings from their father Isaac? It did not happen by accident. Jacob and her mom planned how to deceive Isaac. Like what the prophet Jeremiah said, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick” (Jeremiah 17:9). It is also said in Proverbs 3:32 that the need to lie, and the habit of lying, are pronounced in those who seek their own selfish interests instead of godliness.

There is significant benefit in having good intentions for others, that is joy. Joy is a blessing that no material possession can give us. Jesus wants us to love and care for one another. He summarized the ten commandments into two: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:37-39). It is always a choice. May we choose love and kindness.

So what will you choose today?

Choose Jesus. Choose to lead with love!
