Read 1 Kings 17:1-6
After Elijah announces to Ahab a divinely ordained drought that will last for three years, God instructed Elijah to leave and hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan, where there is no normal food supply. God assured Elijah of His provision. He told Elijah he can drink fresh water from the brook and He has ordered the ravens to feed him.
Yes. God ordered ravens to feed Elijah.
It may sound like a sudden fiction story we read from children’s books, right? I wonder what emoji could represent my expression if ever God will instruct me the same thing. I’m not sure if Elijah suddenly felt a bit of doubt about it, but what the bible says is he obeyed God’s orders. The scripture says he camped in the Kerith canyon on the other side of the Jordan. And sure enough, ravens brought him his meals, both breakfast and supper, and he drank from the brook (v. 5-6).
God is a God who can do even what is impossible in our understanding to fulfill His purpose. Even in drought, God can release water out of a dry rock. A psalmist says, “I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread (Psalm 37:25).”
Are you willing to trust God’s love?
May God’s love be your strength and comfort.
