Read Philippians 2:1-11
The second chapter of Philippians is about Paul’s call to the believers of Philippi to unite in love and humility, following the example of Christ. Paul is encouraging them to put one’s self aside and help others get ahead.
The COVID pandemic taught us to be a helping hand to those in need. Some still chose to focus on their own interest and needs perhaps because of the survival mode yet most still chose to share kindness and care to others. Naturally, our tendency is really to think about our own interests. The key is to take the same degree of consideration and concern and also apply it to others’ interests. Jesus demonstrated how to be selfless and be a humble servant. Having become human, he stayed human. It was an incredibly humbling process. He didn’t claim special privileges. Instead, he lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death—and the worst kind of death at that—a crucifixion (v. 7,8).
What help can you give to your neighbor today? Even a simple prayer of blessing to others will do.
Lord, help me be selfless.
