Let’s Proclaim Our Faith June 1 2022

“‘Yes, Lord,’ she replied, ‘I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.’” John 11:27 (NIV)

Read John 11: 17-37

The sisters Martha and Mary sent words to Jesus that their brother, Lazarus, was unwell. They hoped Jesus would quickly go to Lazarus and heal him, but four days after his death, they realized their brother was beyond rescuing. The sisters were heartbroken.

In their grief, Jesus asked Martha about her faith. Jesus assured Martha that her brother will rise again. Martha agreed, assuming Jesus was talking to the last day’s resurrection. The Jesus said a proclamation: “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this (v. 25)?” Martha’s response is incredible. Despite her grief over the death of a loved one, she expressed her faith in Jesus. “Yes, Lord,” she responded, “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world (v. 27).”

When life gets tough, we wonder if Jesus will still come to our rescue. We question even our own faith in Him. How frequently, however, is our faith increased during a time of suffering and drought? How often do we eventually lean on God during adversities, remembering that he is in charge and not us, turning to our Father, and growing in our faith? What Martha did is something we can all do to proclaim our faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Lord, help me trust in my faith and trust in you as I go about my day.
