Love God All The More - Daily Devotion

Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.”  Luke 7:47

Read Luke 7:36-50

I put my hopes on relationships and selfish desires before Jesus redeemed me. I even wanted to cohabit, and my calloused heart sees no reason I shouldn’t. With sinning, I couldn’t stop and I couldn’t get out of it either. God could have simply allowed me to live that kind of life until now. He could keep me from committing a sin. But when I became a single mom, during my weakest moments, God rescued me.

Sometimes, God allows us to plunge deeply into sin. One reason is so that when he rescues us, we’re far more amazed and grateful than if we’d never sinned. Even after God saves us, God instantaneously delivers us from all other issues rooted in our hearts. He continues to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. God continues to transform us and be like Jesus. He allows us to fall and struggle so we’ll freshly appreciate his grace, forgiveness and love. And as a result, we will love God all the more. And it is not because we deserve, but because God is a loving God.

Sometimes, God enables us to fall deeply into sin. One explanation is because we are significantly more amazed and appreciative when he saves us than if we hadn’t sinned. Even after saving us from our old life, God instantly delivers from all other troubles entrenched in our hearts. He continues to wash us of all unrighteousness and to forgive us. We are still being transformed by God and to become like Jesus. He allows us to fall and struggle so that we might enjoy his grace, forgiveness, and love again and again. As a result, we shall grow in our devotion to God and bring back all the glory to God. God saves us not because we deserve it; it’s because God is a good God who loves us so much!
