“A time is coming and in fact has come when you will be scattered, each to your own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me. — John 16:32
We are made to live in a community with God and one another. We were made to live in self-sacrificing love and peace with one another. That quickly ended with the apple in the Garden of Eden. One might say, life became really bad and really fast. Since sin, that is selfishness, has infected the world it has splintered many families and communities, leaving many vulnerable and alone. The devil first attacks our faith, then our families, and lastly our finances. Jesus has the answer, talk to God, he will never leave or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).
Jesus reminds us that God is always with us. He is a loving Father who delights in our presence. Jesus anticipates the disciples’ question about his “departure” and reassures them. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take courage! I have overcome the world (John 16:33)”. Draw near to God and he will draw near to you (James 4:8). God cannot help himself, because God is Love.
Indeed, God is Love.
