Maturity in Christ

So we continue to tell people about Christ. We use all wisdom to counsel every person and teach every person. We are trying to bring everyone before God as people who have grown to be spiritually mature in Christ.

Colossians 1:28 ERV

Paul shares that the reason why he works hard, doing his best with the energy God so generously gives him, is to bring Colossians before God as people who have grown to be spiritually mature in Christ (ERV).

We are called to go and make disciples of all nations. Salvation is not for us to keep on our own. Our primary purpose is not only to obtain salvation, but to be mature in Christ, to preach Christ and to work hard as we rely on His strength. We cannot impart to others what we do not have. We cannot share Jesus to others if we do not have Jesus in us. To help others grow mature in Christ, we should help ourselves to grow mature in Him as well so that as Psalm 1:3 says, “That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither– whatever they do prospers.”

Maturity in Jesus Christ does not mean having memorized all the scriptures or walking in faith for XX number of years. It means developing character and attitudes similar to Christ. How’s your relationship with God? How’s your relationship with other people? Being mature in Christ is loving God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love our neighbour as we love ourselves, as said in Mark 12:29-31.

Let us start every conversation with Jesus Christ and end with “May God bless you!”
