May We be One in You

“That they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you.” - John 17:21
Recently we celebrated the annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity- to unite all in love for God is love. We begin by reflecting on the anointing of King David to unify the 12 tribes of Israel. Let all of us be anointed with the Spirit of God and receive the special grace to lead and unite His people. As we look around the world, we see Christian churches divided into camps. And within those divisions, both political and religious differences abound. Many of these divisions are centuries old marred with prejudice and lasting wounds. How do we break these generational curses within our Christian communities?
As in any conflict, large or small, the answer is Jesus Christ, simple yet true. Just as David was anointed to unify Israel, Jesus Christ is the “Anointed One” to unite all in love for God is love. Let us keep our eyes fixed on the prize and not on our divisions. This allows Jesus to soften our hearts towards ourselves and others; to find the grace to come together once again in love and unity.
Come, Lord Jesus, and give us the Spirit of unity!
