Our Souls Can Be At Rest

Let my soul be at rest again, for the LORD has been good to me. Psalm 116:7 NLT

Read Psalm 116:1-7

The Bible speaks about the importance of rest multiple times. Exodus 34:21 says, “Six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest. In plowing time and in harvest, you shall rest.” God worked for six days and slept on the seventh day when he created the Earth. God did not need to rest, yet He did so in order to set an example for us. Even during the busiest seasons, we are ordered to take time to rest.

Taking a break might be difficult because it requires placing our complete trust in God. We must let go of our own plans and submit to God’s plan in order to achieve perfect rest. Rest also means admitting that we cannot accomplish everything on our own and must rely on God’s power. In Jesus, there is an assurance that all of our efforts are fruitful. We can find deep rest for our spirits and glorify God by admiring his work. We take a break and rest because life is about more than work.

It is essential to get 7-8 hours of sleep each night to refresh our batteries and prepare for the next day. That is why the Creator Model of Healthcare’s 5 Pillars of Wellness includes sleep as its fourth pillar. We can throw our anxieties on God’s love and sovereignty. Our souls can be at rest for our Lord God has and will always be good to us. Trusting in God is mentioned in the Bible as a promise of such peaceful rest.

Because of God’s great love for us, we may find rest as we trust Him with our concerns.
