Prayer: An Encounter with God
14-Day Mindfulness Moment Devotion – Day 1
God has placed the timeless into our hearts so that we all sense that we belong to eternity and the eternal God. Ecclesiastes 3:11
There are many ways to pray. We have learned traditional prayers that we learned as children such as the Lord’s prayer and bedtime prayers to ask God to protect us as we sleep. And remember, if you worry than you know how to pray. Turn worry into worship as prayer has one goal—an encounter with God. St. Therese of Lisieux described prayer as ” a surge of the heart: it is a simple look turned toward heaven, it is a cry of recognition and love.”
Scripture tells us that God created us in his image and likeness (Genesis 126-27). God has hardwired us to seek him and to find him. That means that deep in our hearts, we all long to be connected to God. Even in the midst of our sins, “man remains an image of his Creator, and retains the desire for the one who calls him into existence.”
At times we try to fill our cup with pleasure, power, prestige, and possessions all yielding only temporary relief. We were made for God and by God and our hearts are restless until they find rest in him.
Rest in the arms of Jesus!
