Put God first, Jesus did!

If anyone comes to me without hating his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.
— Luke 14:25-26
Is Jesus really saying we are to hate our parents, families and our own life to be a disciple? Not really. What Jesus is emphasizing is that to be a disciple we must put Jesus first in our lives above our earthly families and possessions. When we glorify God above all, He teaches us how to honor and respect our families, ourselves and our communities. Indeed, we are to honor our father and mother and love each other as God has loved us.
The new commandment that Jesus gave us clearly dictates that we are to love God above all and then love each other as God has loved us. Then, let’s help each other on the path to salvation. We cannot walk it for one another, but we can walk it with them.
All glory to God!
