When will the new moon be over? — Amos 8:5
In the book of Amos, the Israelites lamented over having to celebrate the monthly “new moon” feast where the people set aside their work to spend time in worship with their families. The feast was intended to “put God first” but this pause was an inconvenient speed bump in making more money. This celebration was intended to draw people closer to God and one another but became burdensome.
The prophet Amos warned the people: The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign Lord, “when I will send a famine through the land—not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord. People will stagger from sea to sea and wander from north to east, searching for the word of the Lord, but they will not find it.
Remember how lifting our heart to the Lord also lifts our burdens. Relish in His love for you as we glorify His holy name.
It is a privilege and blessing to worship God!
