Put His Word Into Action

Today's Daily Devotion - August 11, 2022

By Khai Samante

Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble. — 2 Peter 1:10

I highlighted the significance of intentionally listening to wisdom in yesterday’s devotion. And it doesn’t stop there. In Proverbs 2:2, Solomon wrote, “turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding.” Inclining our ear and listen to wisdom alone does not make us wise, nor fear God. Acquiring knowledge of God’s commands is a good and noble pursuit. But we must also live it out.

Applying what God is saying to us in our lives prepares us for the fear of the Lord. It means we are making Him the Lord of our life; we are submitting to His Lordship. If we truly desire God’s fear, we must also be willing to put His Word into action and live it out virtuously. James 1:22-25 tells us, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.” We should obey the commands and instructions in the Bible. The importance of obeying God’s Word cannot be overstated. Obedience entails a humble and sincere acceptance of God’s authority and will.

How will you apply the Word of God in your life today?

Lord, help me apply your word in my life.
