Quieting Our Soul in the Lord

But I have calmed and quieted myself,
I am like a weaned child with its mother;
like a weaned child I am content. — Psalm 131:2
Can you state with certainty that you are content with your life? We can only be content when we are at peace with ourselves in the present moment, not when we are complacent. In the first verse of Psalm 131, David says, “Neither do I concern myself with great matters, Nor with things too profound for me.” David learned not to put his ambitions for advancement or status above what God had planned for him in the current season. While we patiently wait for God to raise us up in His wisdom and timing during our season, may we seek God and choose to become the person He wants us to be.
It is a choice to be contented. David’s soul was tranquil and quieted. Rather than wasting time comparing himself to what others have achieved or amassed, he chose to find fulfillment and peace of mind in God and His works. David embraced God out of a longing for love, intimacy, and companionship—a desire to get closer to God—much like a weaned infant with his mother.
Let us choose to embrace God and find contentment in His presence and works.
