Remember Who You Are

Today's Daily Devotion - April 6, 2022

By Khai Samante

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. - 1 Peter 2:9

Remember Who You Are

Read: 1 Peter 2:1-10

Who are we?

In contrast to those who do not believe and who stumble because they disobey the message, Peter says we are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation, [God’s] own purchased, special people, that you may set forth the wonderful deeds and display the virtues and perfections of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9 AMPC).

We not only do what is right because it is morally right, forgive because it is the right thing to do, or love because it is what our broken world needs. We do what is right, forgive, and love because of our new identity in Christ. Once we were not a people, but now we are the people of God; once we had not received mercy, but now we have received mercy (v. 10).

When there are times you find it difficult to forgive, love, or obey the Word of God, remember the cross and your new identity. Remember who you are. God chose you. The blood of Jesus Christ purchased you. Since you have [already] tasted the goodness and kindness of the Lord. Come to Him [then, to that] Living Stone which men tried and threw away, but which is chosen [and] precious in God’s sight (v. 3-4 AMPC).

I am a child of God!
