Rock That Is Higher Than I

There are many factors that can cause us to become emotionally overwhelmed. It could be employment responsibilities, family financial needs, relationship issues, life transitions, and so on. As a single parent, I can’t help but feel overwhelmed by everything that needs to be done in a day. We can all be overwhelmed by life. May we remember not to carry our weight alone whenever we feel this way. We have Jesus, who will not only bear our loads but also carry us.

When I’m feeling overwhelmed, I take a step back, close my eyes, and take a deep breath. I tell myself, “Inhale love, exhale gratitude, focus on Jesus.” And then I quietly pray to God, asking Him to sustain me till the end of the day and to always give me a grateful heart. Our sole source is God. He has the ability to continually refill us. Psalm 61:2 says, “Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” There will really come a time when our hearts will be overwhelmed. And when it happens, we need a rock that is higher than us. Ultimately, Jesus Christ is the Rock that is higher than us.
