Seek the Good of Many

No one should seek their own good, but the good of others. — 1 Corinthians 10:24
The church in Corinth struggles to reconcile the law with their newfound freedom in Christ. They anticipate Paul to give them a set of guidelines to follow. However, Paul reminded them that Christianity is about examining not only what is lawful, but also what will edify and benefit others.
What we believe about Jesus Christ differs from what others believe. Today, there are over 4200 different faiths in the globe, each with its own set of beliefs and traditions. We were taught as children that we have free will, or the ability to make our own decisions. We have instilled in ourselves a sense of entitlement to do anything we want. However, we must keep in mind that not everything is advantageous. As a result, we should not exploit our freedom to harm others. We should pursue the good of others rather than our own (v. 24).
1 Corinthians 10:31-33 says, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. Do not cause anyone to stumble, whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God— even as I try to please everyone in every way. For I am not seeking my own good but the good of many, so that they may be saved.”
Do our activities represent Jesus Christ’s life and ministry? Let us pray that may we always be ready whenever God would use us to assist others come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
Unite all in love, for God is love!
