Seeking God Daily Devotion

There, in the presence of the Lord your God, you and your families shall eat and shall rejoice in everything you have put your hand to, because the Lord your God has blessed you. - Deuteronomy 12:7 NIV

Moses’ last message to the second-generation Israelites is found in Deuteronomy. Its goal is to challenge and exhort this generation to complete commitment to the Lord within the perspective of a rebuilt covenant relationship, promising rewards for loyalty and threatening punishments for rebellion. The focus of chapter 12 is on how we should worship God. It empowers the first commandment, “You shall have no other gods before me (Exodus 20:3).”

Seeking God entails a search for His presence. We are to seek God’s face alone. God is always there for us. Because He is omnipresent, He is always close by to everything and everyone. His presence, however, is not constantly with us. There are times we neglect God. That is why the Bible has many passages reminding and advising us to seek God’s presence regularly.

It will be worthless no matter how grand our gatherings are or how expensive our meals are if we do not seek the face of God. The place of worship is a joyful gathering place for God and others. It is a place where we will eat in God’s presence and revel in all that God has given upon us. We rejoice not in the fruits of our labors, but because all of our blessings come from our faithful and generous God.

Let us seek God always.
