Small Assignments (1)

“Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.”

Romans 12:9-10 (NLT)

Read Romans 12:9-21

The chance to share God’s love with others is always available. All we have to do is pay attention to what He puts in front of us. We have a tendency to overlook tiny things in front of us because of our busy lives. How about smiling and silently praying to a neighbor walking by our door, saying a simple thank you to the garbage collectors, or extending a healing prayer to a sick friend? In God’s kingdom, there are no big or small tasks.

Our scripture encourages us to “really love” those around us. Genuine love differs from fake love. Loving others truly means loving them, expecting nothing in return. Hating what’s wrong, clinging to what’s right, and delighting in honoring one another shows that our actions of affection are sincere.

Be willing to accept even minor assignments from God. Small assignments can have a significant impact on our spiritual maturity and even on the persons involved in them. Smile, breathe, love—three words to change the world.

Lord, help me love those whom you have entrusted to me.
