Stillness

The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” — Exodus 14:14

Read: Exodus 14:10-18

Imagine you are one of the Israelites who escaped Egypt on their way to God’s promised land, and you suddenly see hundreds of Egyptian chariots behind you to either retrieve you or kill you. Do you think you can “be still” like what Moses told the Israelites?

Moses had the option of abandoning their quest and surrendering to the Egyptians. But he realized that the only and best way out of their predicament was to trust God. Stillness entails surrendering control of a problem and trusting God to handle it. Have you ever tried to control a situation only to find that the more you try to control it, the more problems it creates? We are constantly attempting to manipulate our circumstances. It is not so simple for us to simply let go of our tight grip on our situation.

It’s difficult to “let go and let God” at times. It sometimes doesn’t make any sense at all. But have faith that God knows more than we do. We may not see what God is doing behind the scenes, but we can trust Him to work everything out according to His perfect plan.

Lord, help me surrender every area of my life to you.
