The Bread of Life

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty." - John 6:35
“I am the bread of life” is one of the seven (7) “I am” declarations of Jesus. During their time, bread is one of the staple foods. They can survive with only bread and water. It also plays an important part in the Passover meal of the Jews.
When Jesus says He is the “bread of life,” it means that He is essential for life. He is more than the basic needs of every human being. Jesus gives not only physical life but eternal life. This is a kind of life that none of the material things here on earth can give us.
Jesus said that whoever comes to Him shall not hunger, and whoever believes in Him shall never thirst. This is an open invitation to all of us to come to Jesus and put our faith in Him as the Son of God. Matthew 6:8 says, “your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” All of us have needs (and wants) but desiring Jesus should be our top priority. As we put Jesus first, all others will follow.
Jesus is the only one that can satisfy our hunger and thirst for righteousness.
