The Desire to Know Everything
Today's Daily Devotion - September 9 2022

I realized that no one can discover everything God is doing under the sun. Not even the wisest people discover everything, no matter what they claim.
— Ecclesiastes 8:17 NLT
An article says, “we are, all of us, meaning-seeking creatures. We seek not only to define the meaning of our lives by adopting, whether consciously or unconsciously, an over-arching purpose, but also to understand the reason for almost everything that happens in the course of each day.” Can you identify with this? If you have a toddler, you surely understand how it feels to constantly be asked, “Why? “, by your child.
We always experience the desire to know everything. The author of Ecclesiastes 8 tells us one of his realizations—that no one can discover everything God is doing under the sun. Not even the wisest people discover everything, no matter what they claim (Ecclesiastes 8:17 NLT). Uncertainty makes us wonder what will happen in our lives tomorrow, why we are experiencing difficulties, what it means, and where it will go. However, our scripture exhorts us to be satisfied with our limited knowledge. Wanting to know everything can lead to pride and the belief that we are the creator and know better than God. Life’s secrets humble us, urging us to seek God and rely on Him.
Lord, lead me today and forever.
