The Good Shepherd

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. - John 10:11
Read John 10:11-18
“I am the Good Shepherd” is another I am saying of Jesus. In the Old Testament times, God is seen as the true shepherd. In the Psalm of David, it says, “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake (Psalm 23:1-3).” In 1 Samuel, David literally risked his life for his sheep, but Jesus did not just risk His life but sacrificed His life on the cross for His flock.
Jesus is the Good Shepherd, and we are His sheep. He is not just a hired man sent by God. Jesus, as the Good Shepherd, knows His own sheep, and His sheep knows Him. We matter to Him, and He cares for us. He puts us before himself. He laid His life for us on His own free will. The Good Shepherd loves unto death—this is the kind of fellowship Jesus has for us.
There may be times when you feel like you cannot hear the voice of the Good Shepherd anymore. The start of the year, the demands from work, the current events, all these might have been making you pre-occupied. Ask God to open your ears again and prepare your heart to hear the voice of Jesus, the loving Shepherd who always wanted to have a fellowship with you.
Thank you, Jesus, for your infinite love!
