The Light of the World

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

John 8:12

Light is one of the first creations of God. Genesis 1:1-3 says, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.” It is not an accident that God created light in the first five days of His creation. Perhaps, the Lord knows how important light is for His creation. We depend on the sun for the light during the day, we rely on flashlights from our phones in the dark, the light of the moon and the stars during the night, and even plants and vegetation need light to grow. Light is very important to us.

Light is part of who Jesus is. Whatever Jesus speaks, it is from God and for God and as God. Without God in our life, we will continue to live in darkness. Through Jesus Christ and the sacrifice of His life on the cross, we are all exposed to light, and so our sins. Our relationship with Jesus Christ brings light to the dark areas of our light. Jesus’ light is powerful. Far from the light, we will live not knowing the true beauty and purpose of life. Without the light of Jesus, we will continue to live in temporary happiness and satisfaction, frustration, and hopelessness.

Let us rely on the light of Jesus.
