Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, some multiplying thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times. —Mark 4:8
Read Mark 4:1-20
The gospel is like a seed because it contains the power of life. From a simple, vulnerable seed, it contains the power of spiritual life and gives eternal life. The potency of the seed, like the parable of the sower, will be determined by where it is planted—whether our hearts will receive the seed and allow it to flourish or not. If our hearts are like the good soil, the seed will thrive and bear fruit a hundred times over.
It says in 1 Peter 1:23, “For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.” The word of God causes organic changes in our spiritual lives. Unlike religion, which is based on performance and only promotes mechanical growth, the Gospel produces organic growth. It helps us to mature both inside and out. Jesus Christ’s radical love has the capacity to work inside of us, to transform us, and to make us love and obey God. It can help us grow more fruitful, wiser, deeper, and stronger by making us less focused on ourselves. Because of the eternal life that the seed provides, we can have hope and joy despite our struggles in life.
The greatness of God is all around us.
