The Sanctity of Life

In my career as a family physician, I have provided care to many pregnant women. Early in my career at a teaching hospital, an ultrasound showed that a baby did not have functioning kidneys. The mother and father were counseled based on the serial ultrasounds their baby would not survive once delivered. Undaunted by the news, the expectant couple joyfully prepared for their gift of life.

The great physician, God, had other plans. The infant was born with perfectly functioning kidneys. The couple placed their trust in the hands of our Lord. Prayers and surrender to our Lord almost always brings us great peace. It may even bring us unexpected joy as we draw closer to God encouraging a moment-to-moment divine exchange offering us peace in His presence.
