Read Romans 4:1-17
The scripture says blessed are those whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. God’s forgiveness is a promise we receive as a sheer gift from Him. Are there times when you still doubt if God has really forgiven you? God’s mercy and grace sound too good to be true, perhaps because we are used with “doing” something in order to “gain” something.
I remember when I was still a child, and I caught a fever. My mom called the faith healer in our community to ask what to do for me to get well. The faith healer said I did something bad. That is why I am being punished, and the punishment is in the form of sickness. He instructed my mom to sacrifice blood of a chicken for me to get well.
In our walk with God, sometimes we are still confined in that kind of mentality that to get right with Him, we offer sacrifices to be more religious, to increase our “works.” Our trust in God is what gets us right with Him. It is by embracing what God did for us, through Jesus Christ, that he declared us righteous before God.
God’s promises to us are not a mere contract like a business deal. The fulfillment of His promise depends entirely on trusting God and His way, and then embracing God and what He does. God’s promise arrives as a pure gift. (v. 16 MSG).
