We Can Cry Out to God

Answer me when I call to you, my righteous God. Give me relief from my distress; have mercy on me and hear my prayer.

Psalm 4:1

Read Psalm 4

Have you ever cried out to God?

I remember six years ago, I was still new to my faith that time when I was defrauded by a person I trust. It was painful because the person who did it was a friend and secondly because she left me empty-handed financially. As a solo parent and the only one providing for my two-year-old daughter, each day has been filled with anxiety and fear. That circumstance made me cry out to God on my knees. I believe He led me to the book of Joshua. My spirit was lifted when I read the words from Joshua 1:9 saying, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

God has a lot of ways, some of them unexpected, of giving relief to our distress. He is a God who comforts those who mourn, gives strength to the weak, gives power to the faint, cares for the anxious, brings beauty out of what is broken, provides for those who are in need, remains a refuge for the oppressed, and loves unconditionally even those who are not deserving of His love. There are a lot of other truths about God. He is always inviting in His presence. Are you accepting His invitation?

Lord, thank you for your love, mercy, and unending grace. I love you!
