We Had Hoped

“We had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel.” Luke 24:21
Have you experienced having high hopes on something and then suddenly it failed you or something happened and everything fell into pieces?
The disciples hoped that Jesus was the one who will deliver Israel from the Romans. Jesus’ death is not a part of their expectation. Even when they have the reason to rejoice, because of the weakness of their faith, they can hardly acknowledge the comfort offered to them. They were filled with sadness and sorrow.
I believe many of us can related with the disciples. We were filled with hopes as the year 2020 enters. We had a lot of plans and expectations. Yet the pandemic, lock down, fear of the virus, and economic meltdown are not in the picture of our 2020 faith goals. Most of us were disheartened because of our current situation.
There is a hope that is above and beyond life’s brokenness. Jesus is the crucified one who died for our redemption. However, our salvation is not only about placing our faith in Jesus alone. We are also expected to live by faith, to walk in spirit and truth, and to learn how to trust God’s word and not on what we see on our circumstances. Let us not rely on our understanding, instead let us rely on the One who is above all things.
Lord, help me to live by faith.
