We Please Who Our Master Is - Daily Devotion

We are not trying to please people but God, who tests our hearts. 1Thessalonians2:4

Scripture Reading: 1 Thessalonians 2:1-16

A friend opened up about her past struggles with work because of toxic office politics. I reminded her to do her work excellently, not to please men, but to please God. Who do we please in our workplace, in our social media posts, or in our ministry? We please who our master is. In MSG version, it says God tested us thoroughly to make sure we were qualified to be trusted with this Message. Be assured that when we speak to you we’re not after crowd approval—only God approval.

It is not a sin to get comments and appreciation from individuals who value our work. However, if the incentives for our behavior are based on what others say, it can be detrimental. Paul may have taken use of his position as an apostle of Christ. Despite this, he continues to spread the gospel, even if it means risking his life, not to satisfy others or get glory. He is attempting to please God alone, who examines people’s hearts, rather than the members of his ministry.

Make my heart pure, Lord.
