Read Psalm 20
Psalm 20 is a prayer filled with confidence in God. The people even planned to lift their banners in King David’s victory because they are trusting in the deliverance of God. We have been battling with the Covid-19 pandemic for how many months now. We’ve been unceasingly praying for the eradication of the virus, yet the number of cases still continues to rise. Given the reality in front of us, can we still confidently trust God that He will deliver us from our situation now?
Verse 7 of our Psalm today says, “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” Before the pandemic, many of us have been anchoring our trust in ourselves, in the stability of our work, finances, advance technology, and many other material things. What happened to them all? The pandemic revealed to us that we do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is our life? We are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes (James 4:14).
The step to victory is to acknowledge that we can do nothing apart from God. “Those who remembered the name of the LORD have risen and stand upright (v. 7).” We can trust God because the name of the LORD is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe (Proverbs 18:10). We can be victorious despite any trials, hardships, and even pandemic as we trust in the character and faithfulness of God.
Our faith leads to success.
