What Causes Our Fights and Quarrels?

Today's Daily Devotion - June 17, 2022

You do not have because you do not ask God. – James 4:2

What causes our fights and quarrels? According to the Bible, the source of all conflicts and fights, including among Christians, is always the same. It stems from the lusts of the flesh that fight within us. It’s motivated by a yearning for worldly and selfish pleasures that pull our hearts away from God. We want something out of greed and selfishness, and if we can’t obtain it, we fight and dispute.

The scripture clearly says, “You do not have because you do not ask God.” But it’s not only about the humility of asking from God. “When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.” God is delighted whenever we seek Him and pray to Him. He delights in hearing and answering wholesome, smart, and pure prayers that align with His perfect will. When we pray, God sees our hearts’ intentions and motivations. When we pray and ask for things for selfish reasons, we will not receive.

Only by staying in God’s Word and allowing the Holy Spirit to take charge of our life can we overcome our fleshly desires. Let us delight ourselves in the Lord in our prayers and align our will with God’s will, so that we may live a victorious life and be content in all circumstances, to His honor and glory.

Ask and you shall receive.
