Where Can We Find Joy?

But the fruit of the Spirit is . . . joy. — Galatians 5:22
Where can we find joy? Sometimes we mix up joy and happiness. Others believed they would find happiness in material possessions and pleasure. Joy and happiness may overlap, but they are not the same. The Lord gives us joy. He is the sole source of genuine joy. We don’t have to create or generate it on our own. Happiness is determined by circumstances; joy is determined by God. When life becomes painful, happiness fades; joy persists and may even grow.
James writes at the start of his important teaching on facing trials, “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials” (NKJV). Responding with joy during times of trial is a process to learn. It must begin with a conscious awareness that God is at work in our lives and that He has a tangible purpose for why we are experiencing these trials. Do you trust that God’s plans is for your good? Do you have faith in His Word? We can respond to life’s difficulties with genuine joy if we believe the Lord has a reason for allowing those difficult times of suffering and trials.
Count it all joy!
