Heart Condition

“And the one who has faith in him will not be put to shame. ”

Romans 9:33 CEB

Read Romans 9:30-33

What a wonderful promise, isn’t it? Those who put their faith and relies in the righteousness of Jesus Christ will not be disappointed (MSG). It is important to have a heart check from time to time and ask God to reveal areas of our heart not aligned to His will. We are to guard our hearts because everything we do flows from it (Proverbs 4:23). According to Joyce Meyer, “The quicker you can detect a wrong heart condition and get it straightened out, the better off you are.”

In Paul’s epistle to the Romans, he clarified that for the Gentiles, God has fulfilled His saving promises to them. He also expounded whether God’s promises to the ethnic Israel have been fulfilled as well, despite their disobedience.

Israel, instead of trusting God, became very absorbed in the practices, traditions, and rituals they are doing for God that they didn’t notice God at all. Their “God projects” is like a huge rock in the middle of the road (MSG). They sought God in the wrong way. Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary says, “They sought, but not in the right way, not in the humbling way, not in the appointed way. Not by faith, not by embracing Christ, depending upon Christ, and submitting to the gospel. They expected justification by observing the precepts and ceremonies of the law of Moses.” But the stone is me! If you’re looking for me, you’ll find me on the way, not in the way (MSG v.33).

What’s the condition of your heart? Now that we are in a year that seems like “the survival of the fittest,” are you embracing Christ, believing in Him, and submitting to the gospel?

Lord, reveal to me the areas of my heart that are not glorifying you.
